How does upside-down text work?

Choose upside down, flipped letters or plain backwards text, then paste it anywhere.

Unicode contains characters that happen to look like upside-down Latin letters — ɐ, ǝ, ɥ, ʇ — mostly from phonetic alphabets. The generator swaps each character for its look-alike and reverses the order, so the result reads correctly when the screen is turned 180°.

Good to know

  • Only Latin letters, digits and common punctuation can be flipped; Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters are only reversed
  • A few capitals use rare symbols that some older devices can't show
  • Flipped words aren't searchable, so keep important information normal

Where to use upside-down text

  • Pranks and puzzles in group chats
  • Eye-catching bios and usernames
  • Riddle answers people turn their phone for
  • Playful captions and comments

Why people use it

  • Letters, digits and punctuation flip
  • No download, sign-up or app
  • Backwards mode for mirror-style messages
  • Live preview as you type

Frequently asked questions

How do I type upside down on Instagram or TikTok?

Convert your text here, copy it and paste it into your bio, caption, comment or username. No special keyboard or app needed.

What's the difference between upside down, flipped and backwards?

Upside down turns the letters over and reverses their order, as if the text were rotated. Flipped turns the letters over but keeps the order. Backwards only reverses the order.

Why are some characters not flipped?

Unicode has no upside-down look-alike for some characters, and non-Latin scripts can't be flipped, so those are left as they are.

Does it work on Discord and WhatsApp?

Yes. The result is plain Unicode text, so it works in chats, usernames and posts on almost every platform.

Is it free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up and no limits.
